Jackson's arrival was long awaited, as my
due date was March 5. We went to the hospital on Sunday night, March
11, for a planned induction of labor. I started early labor overnight
while I received medication to better prepare my cervix for the real deal.
My physician broke my water later that morning about 11:30am. Within
minutes of that, Jackson's heart rate began to slow and I was immediately
taken for a Cesarean Section. (I
later found out that my placenta was only in the 10th percentile...it was
very small...and because I was already one week over-due, those two factors
caused the placenta to not tolerate labor well and therefore Jackson was not
getting adequate blood flow to maintain a satisfactory heart rate.)
It was a very emotional moment for both
of us as we had never really considered that Jackson would arrive to us in
this manner, although I was never fearful and most certainly knew God's
peace during those moments. The operation was very quick, Mitch sat by
me and I don't think we took our eyes off each other the whole time.
We finally were able to leave the hospital on Thursday, March 15.
